Forest School at the Seaside

We had to work as a team today to make a wonderful seaside scene. We used a mixture of things from the classroom and items we found in the Wildlife Area.

Forest School Meets Under the Sea.

Today we were really pleased to head out to our Wildlife Area.  It was a very hot day and the trees provided some welcome shade.  We had to use our eyes and look for small things on the floor which we could use to make a collage .  Once we had collect our items we stuck them carefully onto a picture of a sea creature.

Sports Day!

In the past few days we have been practising our races for Sports Day and today it paid off.  We had great fun running, jumping, hurdling and bouncing.  We cheered on our friends and loved being part of a team.

15.05.17

Spiders!

As part of our minibeast topic we have been talking about spiders.  We know they're not insects because they have 8 legs and not 6.  We also know that they make their webs from silk which is produced from spinnerets. Today at forest school we became spiders and made our own webs!

Forest School - Hansel and Gretel

We found a very strange thing in the wildlife area today, a little house made from biscuits and sweets!  It was just like the one that Hansel and Gretel found.  We're coming back next week, so Mrs Pinfold asked us what we could do so we would find it again? We said we could leave a trail just like Hansel and Gretel.  Luckily Mrs Pinfold had some little white stones as well as some bread. We laid two trails and can't wait to see if they are still there next week.  We think that the birds and animals will eat the bread but the stones will still be there.

We had great fun pretending to be Hansel and Gretel and hiding from the wicked witch!

Harold and Nancy from Coram Life Education

Today we visited Nancy and Harold the giraffe in their Life Bus.  Nancy told us about our bodies on the inside and what gives us energy. We talked about our bones, hearts, lungs stomach and guts. Nancy had a special suit where we could stick on organs. She also told us that sleep is very important and we looked at the beautiful twinkling stars.

Nancy told us that Harold was going to Nursery for the first time today and asked if we could help him.  She said that Harold was a little bit nervous and worried.  Nancy wondered if there was any thing we could do to help Harold?  We all said we would be kind to him, show him what to do and be a good friend.

We had to help Harold get ready for the day; it was lucky that he had brought his wash bag with him! We helped him wash, clean his teeth and brush his hair.

When we left Harold was keen to say 'goodbye' to everyone!

"Run, run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man!"

We love reading our traditional tales and we had fun decorating our very own gingerbread men.

Pancake Day!

Today was Pancake Day.  Mrs Morton told us that Pancake Day is also called Shrove Tuesday.  We learnt that people have being eating pancakes, on this day, for a very very long time.  Mrs Pinfold told us that Jesus wanted to feel closer to God and so, after being baptised, he went into the wilderness.  There he stayed for forty days and forty nights, not eating or drinking much.  Christians remember Jesus going into the wilderness.  Before Ash Wednesday they look in their cupboards and use all the foods that won't last for very long.  Often they need to use up eggs, milk and flour so they make pancakes.

At Nursery we made our own pancakes.  We had to measure the ingredients and mix them together.  Sebastian's mummy cooked them for us.  We chose what topping to put on; sugar, chocolate sauce, maple syrup or lemon juice.  Most of us chose chocolate and got very sticky!

08.02.17

Forest School

Today we wrapped up warm, put on our wellie boots and went exploring in our Wildlife Area.  Mrs Sizer talked about wearing the right clothes; we all agreed that it wouldn't be a good idea for her to go over in her smart shoes and without a coat.  She also told us about the things we should take, such as a first aid bag, and how to keep ourselves safe.  We learnt how to enter and exit the log circle through the door and that if we wanted to hear the birds and animals we had to be really quiet. We played some games and had a chance to hide. We used a magnifying glass to look for some interesting objects and displayed our findings on the log table.  Some of our toes got a little bit chilly but we loved being outdoors.  On the the way back to the Sunshine Room we played in the Music Garden and ran across the big field. We can't wait to go exploring again!

Baby Cooper's Visit

Today Elliot's little brother came to visit us, he brought his mummy too!  We looked at how small he was and talked about being babies.  Jodi told us how she looks after him and keeps him safe and warm. She also showed us some of the things that Cooper needs such as nappies, bottles and dummies. We talked about how we have grown and how we have learnt to do things for ourselves.  We decided that we are all very special and that our mummies and daddies love us very much.

Why do we Wear Poppies?

We noticed that lots of people are wearing poppies at the moment and we wondered why.  We learnt it was to remember people who helped us a long time ago and who stood up for something they believed in. We looked at some old pictures of a field.  There was no grass or flowers and the trees were only stumps. People had been fighting there. After a while, once the fighting had stopped, the field was covered in gorgeous red poppies and beautiful green trees. And so we wear a poppy to remember people and to say 'thank you' to them.

We also visited a special place, just outside our school, where people can go to remember.  The next day the whole of the school was quiet for one minute so we could think about those special people.  Some of us had already gone to swimming, but the rest of us joined in. We painted some wonderful pictures of poppies.

Who is God?

This was a question we asked early on in the term.  From our display pictures below you can see that we various answers!  During this term we've been talking about God, where he may be and what he does for us. We asked the question again today (19.10.16), "Who is God?"  Aren't the children's answers just wonderful?

Welcome to Nursery

The Nursery children have had a tremendous start to their school year.  Everyone has settled well and they are now all experts in the rhythm and routines of our morning.  This term we have been learning where all the exciting toys, equipment and craft materials are kept and learning how we can use them. We've also been talking about what makes a good friend and how to share nicely. We've thought about God;  who we think he is and what he does.  In the next few weeks we will be spending a lot of time outside observing the changes in the trees, plants and weather as we head further into autumn.

Academic Year 2015-2016

Friday 9th June 2016

Happy Birthday Queen Elizabeth

Today we celebrated the Queen's official birthday.  We all thought it was a good idea to have a second birthday in the summer so we could have a party outside.  The day began with us watching a Winnie The Pooh story written especially for the Queen's 90th birthday. We then went outside and played some games on the big field .  Finally we had a birthday picnic.  As with all parties, we wore a special outfit - our red, white and blue clothes.

19.05.16 Greg from Legends Tennis Centre gave us a Tennis Taster Session today. It was great fun and we learnt a lot.

Our Minibeast Hunt

22.04.16

Today we went on a minibeast hunt in our wildlife area.  We had to look everywhere for minibeasts - up, down, in and under. We had magnifying glasses to help us see the bugs better (it made them look bigger) and pots to collect them in.  We had to be very careful and we made sure that the bugs were put back in their homes once we had looked at them. We found worms, beetles, slugs, a ladybird, spiders, ant eggs, millipedes, centipedes, little flies and a dead wasp!

Easter

Easter is a very important time of year.  We learnt that the Easter story is both sad and happy.  To celebrate we made rice crispy nests which the Easter Bunny filled with eggs! We also coloured paper eggs which we cut in half.  We kept one half and the other half was hidden outside in the Quiet Garden. We then had to hunt to see if we could find the hidden half.

The whole school went to St Mary's Church for an Easter Service.  Reverend Alan led the service.

Our Shiny Orchestra

To celebrate the end of our Shiny topic we assembled a shiny orchestra!  We found lots of musical instruments and choose the ones which were shiny or had shiny bits on them. Before we played the instruments, we talked about what we had discovered about shiny things. We knew that for something to be shiny we need light and light comes in lots of different forms; sunshine, moonlight, torches, electric lights and stars.  We listened to the different sounds our instruments made and then played altogether whilst singing ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.’

An Autumn Walk  - In the Rain!

Wednesday 21st October 2015

Today we went an autumn walk.  We looked at the colours of the leaves on the trees and on the ground.  We talked about why so many of the leaves had fallen off the trees and looked for 'treasures' on the ground. We collected conkers, acorn cups, colourful leaves and twigs. Some of our mummies and daddies were able to come with us.  It did rain so the leaves weren't very crispy, but had great fun jumping in the puddles!

A Farm Came to Visit Us!

On 6th October 2015 a farm came to visit us. We learnt about different types of animals and birds.  We saw that some had feathers, some had fur and some had hair.  We counted the number of legs they had and looked at their feet. We all had our favourite.

Welcome to Acorn - Nursery!

Wow what a fantastic group of children we have in Nursery!  This half term's topic has been " Why do you love me so much?" We talked about being a good friend, sharing and feelings.  One of our favourite stories was "Love Monster"  by Rachel Bright.   The children have been very busy exploring their environment, being creative and making new friends. We are all looking forward to our autumn walk and finding out about our new topic "Why do leaves go crispy?"
