At Hertingfordbury Cowper C of E (VA) Primary School, our Art and Design curriculum provides enrichment, expression and experimentation for children of all abilities.  We believe that every child is an artist, and provide them with the opportunity to learn, experiment, refine and develop their own style which is celebrated through their sketch book journey.  Children will gain a comprehensive range of skills and techniques which are sequentially built upon, to enable them to showcase their creativity in a wide range of materials an d styles.  Using the four elements of drawing, painting, collage and sculpture, each pupil is given the opportunity to experiment and to hone their control, whilst encouraging imaginative expression and creative flair. 

Throughout the school, children will study a range of famous artists and designers, drawing on them for inspiration for their own work while also discussing, evaluating and comparing both their own work and that of established artists. Where relevant, art effectively utilises cross-curricular links, adding to the children’s experiences and depth of understanding in other areas of their learning.
