Our Curriculum

At Hertingfordbury Cowper C of E (VA) Primary School, we teach a rich, broad and balanced curriculum covering a range of subjects as specified in The Early  Years Framework and the National Curriculum.

Our curriculum in the Early Years is based on the three prime areas of learning (Communication and Language; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development) and the four specific areas of learning (Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World; Expressive Arts and Design).

In Key Stages 1 and 2, our core subjects are English, Mathematics, Science and Computing.

The Foundation Subjects are Religious Education, History, Geography, Music, Physical Education, Art and Design, Design and Technology, Personal, Social, and Health Education and French (from Key Stage 2).

We have developed a skills and knowledge based curriculum which has clear progression across the year groups and key stages.  Through this, we develop a love of learning  and ensure each child reaches their full potential.   We work hard to enrich the children’s learning experiences through making cross-curricular links, drama, outdoor learning and offering educational trips and visits, as well as a range of extra-curricular clubs.

‘Wow’ moments, learning experiences and photographs of children's own work are shared via our online platform ‘Seesaw’.  This encourages the home-school partnership that we value greatly at Hertingfordbury Cowper.
