Beech - Year 2

Academic Year 2020-2021

Summer Term

Sports Day

Gardeners’ World

Our topic this term is Gardeners’ World. We have been very busy growing all sorts of seeds and bulbs. We have been carefully observing their stages of growth and experimenting with what plants and seeds need to keep healthy. We have also spent some time outside in our wildlife area, pond and field, looking at and learning about habitats. Here are a few photos of things we have planted. Look at all the different things we have been growing.

Beech Class were very fortunate to have a visit from some friends of the school who are beekeepers. We wrote lots of open questions in preparation for the visit. We enjoyed asking our questions and gathering lots of information. Did you know that it takes 12 bees, 6 weeks, to make one teaspoon of honey?

Autumn Term

Christmas Party Day in Beech Class!

Today we had a Christmas party in Beech Class. We played some party games and had many giggles and great fun.  Everyone created our own Christmas crowns to wear. We designed a Christmas placemat to decorate our table. The Christmas meal was very tasty and delicious. In the afternoon, we watched a live pantomime of Rapunzel on our interactive whiteboard. It was videoed from a real theatre.  What was your favourite part of the day? Happy Christmas everyone!

Our visit from Ark Farm.

We were very excited to have some animals from Ark Farm come to visit our school. They brought a donkey, three goats, and some sheep. We even spent time with their friendly farm dog. We were able to observe them, feel their fur coverings and stroke them. They were very noisy! We could hear them all day from our classroom!

Our Living Nativity

This afternoon our whole school participated in our Living Nativity outside on the school field. We enjoyed dressing up as part of the nativity story. We shared in telling this special story of the birth of Jesus, through singing, musical performances, bible readings, poems and prayers. We even had the sounds and smells of real live animals! Mary and Joseph travelled that long journey with the donkey and baby Jesus was born in the stable with the animals. The shepherds were there with their sheep and the three wise men followed the star to see the new King.  It was a very special afternoon.

Our topic this first half term is 'Time Trekkers'. During this look at significant events, we have learned about The Gunpowder Plot and The Great Fire of London. Our art work this term has all been linked to our topic. Here is some work we did based on fireworks. In one piece, we experimented with chalks for the fireworks and created our own stencil of a sky line. In the other, we used different printing methods to create fireworks. Can you guess which objects we used? The neon paints really help our fireworks stand out against the black sky.
In PSHE we have been thinking about our individual features which make us unique. We created a self-portrait of ourselves to celebrate how special we are.
