Hertingfordbury Cowper C of E (VA) Primary School

Rooted in Jesus, Growing in Wisdom, Overflowing with Thankfulness
Colossians 2:7

Our Christian Vision and Values

At Hertingfordbury Cowper C of E (VA) Primary School, we are …

Rooted in Jesus, growing in wisdom, overflowing with thankfulness’

(Colossians 2:7)

We plant a seed and enable children to establish deep roots into Jesus’ teachings.

Together we grow strong to form a place of belonging from which we can reach out to others.

(Matthew 13:31-32)

Our unique Christian vision is at the core of everything we do and who we are here at Hertingfordbury Cowper.  It provides a secure foundation for how we learn, teach and relate with one another and our wider community.  Each person’s presence and contribution are valued as an integral part.

We base our school Christian vision on Jesus' Parable of the Mustard Seed

He told them another parable: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field.

Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.’

(Matthew 13:31-32)

Taken from our whole school Vision Day walk to The Great Oak in Panshanger Park, to symbolise and show the children how the tree provides a home and refuge for so many creatures.  We liken this to our school badge and us as a school community.

Our School Prayer

Father God,

Thank you for sending love to us through Jesus.

May our words praise and honour you,

And may our actions bring justice and reconciliation.

Help us to grow like the great mustard tree with roots in Jesus,

Any may we always reach out with your love to others.

Amen

Our Christian Values

Our school community is rooted in Jesus and the Christian values he teaches us.

The Christian values we focus on are -

Koinonia

Justice

Reconciliation

Reverence

Humility

Love

These values underpin all that we do in our school and our relationships with one another.

During the Church's season of Advent, we learn about hope, love, joy and peace.  the season of Lent gives us a time of personal reflection and prayer.

Living out these values are important to our school ethos and unique Christian vision.

We focus on a different Christian value every half term.  They are explored through different Bible stories, across both the Old and New Testament, with key scripture verses taken from these; they are demonstrated in the work of influential figures; they are linked to our actions as a school; and they are always brought back to our school’s Christian vision.
