English
Literacy and communication lie at the heart of all learning; through our English curriculum, children will develop these life skills and apply them across many different areas. We want all children, no matter their background and needs, to learn to love literature in all its variety, engaging with it for the benefit of themselves and those around them – exploring the intellectual, emotional, spiritual and social elements present in all aspects of English – speaking, reading and writing.
English is taught in a way that integrates reading, writing and oracy: we aim to stimulate and excite the children through text-based learning that provides engaging and challenging vocabulary and content; and through links across the curriculum.
We use the following schemes to support our teaching and learning:
- Phonics - Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised
- Early Years and KS1 reading - Big Cat Little Wandle
